Each year, as part of the Engineering Leadership Programme (ELP), our engineers work on group projects to help develop their team work and technical skills, with the end result being a product demo to be used for trade shows or seminars.

myMusicalTesla: 100,000 Volts of Awesome!

myMusicalTesla was created by Max Simmonds, a EEE undergrad from Plymouth University, during his placement year at NI. Max used LabVIEW and the myRIO to control the switching circuitry to produce a beautiful (and surprisingly loud) musical spark.

A Robotic Arm Draughts Opponent, Automated and Controlled by NI myRIO and LabVIEW

The Applications Engineering team at National Instruments UK have created an automated draughts opponent using LabVIEW and the new NI myRIO. They were able to integrate an existing C draughts engine onto the myRIO to provide the intelligence and used the power of the FPGA to accurately control the movements of the robotic arm. A simple USB webcam was used to locate the pieces following a human move!

 

Romeo and Juliet

A group of five Application Engineers at NI (UK) designed a built two autonomous vehicles that would emulate a 3rd student's final year project. They are called Romeo and Juliet, using a mixture of IR and ultrasound sensors they avoid obstacles while finding each other in an area. The controller and software used is an NI sbRIO 9636 and NI LabVIEW.

 

 

Renewable Energy Rapid Prototyping Inverter Controller Using National Instruments sbRIO

The Applications Engineering team at National Instruments UK have created renewable energy Single-Board RIO controlled rapid prototyping inverter system. Using the power of LabVIEW, FPGA and Multisim, the team were able to quickly design, prototype and deploy several iterations of their algorithm seamlessly, enabling them to develop a fully working, custom designed solution in just 3 months.
