Formula Student Awards

 

National Instruments is looking to work with Formula Student Teams on Datalogging and Embedded Systems. If you are interested in learning how NI can work with your Formula Student Team, please contact our UK academic team.

The judging of these awards will take place during the Formula Student Event by National Instruments staff. Teams who are interested in being judged for the award can contact us in advance to arrange a time for us to view your car.

 

NI Measurement & Control Award 2013

This award recognises the team that most successfully implements control systems and sensor measurement systems within the design, development and deployment of their car.

From on-board data structural test to electric car management systems, live telemetry to post race analysis this award showcases software-based innovation and discovery in Formula Student cars.

 

Judging criteria:

  • Have the team used measurements to help make informed decisions?
  • Have any innovative control systems been implemented by the team?
  • How are measurements and control integrated into the overall vehical architecture?
  • Can the team clearly articulate what have been the benefits to the team and their performance?

 

Prize:

The winning team will recieve a Formula Student Development Kit. The kit includes:

  • CompactRIO system
  • LabVIEW Software for up to five development machines
  • Training materials
  • Support from NI Engineers
  • Case study of your applications featured on ni.com

 

2012 Winners

UK Winner - University of Hertfordshire

Extensive use of data aquisition using over 80 sensors throughout the car to rigorously test and validate the design.

Global Winner - T.U. Munich

Monitored continuous race data in order to improve the vehicle using a multi channel data aquisition approach. Enabling the team to evolve the car for future races.

 

Formula Student 2011 Awards

 

Best Innovative Use of an Embedded System in the Car

Recognising the team who have most innovatively incorporated commercial off-the-shelf embedded control systems in the vehicle. A focus is given to software defined solutions using the newest industry relevant products to create.

Best Use of Data Acquisition in Development of the Car

Recognising the team who have most effectively used measurements in the design and development of their car. The focus is on using modern innovative design approaches to showcase the benefits gained through the use of programmable dataloggers in the test phases of any part of the vehicle (engine or otherwise).
